May 23, 2007

JP: Hey let's go make some words! Hey I got an idea.

Mom: What is your idea?

JP: That means I can get thirsty with some black juice. And it's Coke. Do you know where it is?

Mom: I do but you have to earn it first.

JP: When it's Cokey its Pepsi!

Mom: Do you like Pepsi?

JP: Yeeess! I like the little one.

Mom: You like the little cans?

JP: Yes, I like a little can with a Pepsi on it. You can open my little Pepsi with some Pepsi in it.

Mom: What are going to do with that Pepsi?

JP: I'm going to drink it.

Mom: Is that because you are hungry?

JP: (giggle) Not quite. That's for when I am thirsty.

Mom: Oh, I always get confused.

JP: That's not when you get confused. That's the one when I make you happy!

Mom: You always make me happy JP!

JP: Oh, me to! Well I got, hey, let's drink the little Pepsi together.

Mom: Well, remember when Mommy said after we do our work and play our games we can have a snack of popcorn and Pepsi.

JP: Oh, sure. Look I can dress up as a dragon!

Mom: A dragon!

JP: Yes.

Mom: Is it a scary dragon?

JP: But its a magic dragon costume.

Mom: Who wears the costume?

JP: Spud does in Spud the dragon movie in Bob the Builder CD on my radio. Tomorrow we are going to get that movie at our house and we'll watch it instead. Maybe we can do that. We'll do that next morning.

Mom: Well, honey, I don't know if I can find the movie. You have the story on the radio. We'll have to look to see if the library has the movie.

JP: Yeah! Now lets drink the popcorn and the little Pepsi together. Or now let's eat the popcorn and drink the Coke together!

Mom: Do you like popcorn?

JP: Yes, but they are soooo yummy!

Mom: What other food do you like?

JP: I like some Wiggles fruit snacks.

Mom: Those are good.

JP: Yeah, you are right. Maybe let's find the Pepsi and then let's cook the popcorn.

Mom: Where should I cook the popcorn?

JP: Into the microwave.

Mom: Oh, the microwave. Good thinking!

JP: Then let's find the little Pepsi. Maybe it's downstairs. In the basement. Let's go find it and see. Mommy are you coming?

Mom: Where in the basement?

JP: Maybe it's on the little frigerator. Inside.

Mom: Is that refrigerator bigger or littler than the one in the kitchen?

JP: Littler. But its NOT in the kitchen. It's downstairs in the closet room. Come on let's go find it so I can drink it. We're on my way!

Mom: What if I told you we were out of Pepsi. (mean, I know!)

JP: Ha! Oh no! But we are not out of Pepsi! We're full of Pepsi! We got to drink some.

Mom: But let's pretend we were out of Pepsi. Where ...

JP: BUT we are NOT out of PEPSI!!!!

Mom: Where would we go to get more Pepsi?

JP: Just downstairs. Hey look there is me flying with Woody! I got to get Woody and drag him into the trash.

(He's looking at a Photoshop picture I made. It is Buzz and Woody flying. I put JP's head on Buzz. It is a "thank you" to his teachers telling them that we wish we could take them to infinity and beyond with us! I also made a Superman one. JP talks about these pictures like they are real. "When I was Superman and I flew through the sky..." )

Mom: If there was no Pepsi downstairs where would Mommy have to go to buy more?

JP: At the store!

Mom: You are right! What would I have to have in order to buy the Pepsi?

JP: Because they are hiding!

Mom: Does mommy have to give the cashier something before we bring the Pepsi home?

JP: Ha! Good thinking!

Mom: What does Mommy give the cashier?

JP: Some money!

Mom: Yes, you are such a smart cookie!

JP: Yeah! Now let's go find the little Pepsi! Let's go find it downstairs!

Mom: Okay, I give up! Let's go!

May 21, 2007

Mom: So what are you drinking?

JP: I'm drinking some Coke..or lemonade...or Pepsi.

Mom: Oh, Pepsi. How come Mommy is giving you a special Pepsi?

JP: Because it's down stairs. In the basement. Between those boxes. On top of the frigerator.

Mom: But what did you do to earn your Pepsi?

JP: Because I dranked it. Or because...ummm!

Mom: No, listen carefully. What did JP do today to earn his Pepsi. Did you have to do something special.

JP: Yes.

Mom: What?

JP: Well, I just have to get started...playing games with our friends.

Mom: Did you have OT2 today?

JP: Yes. What did you have to do at OT2 in order to earn a Pepsi?

Mom: Write and play games.

JP: Were there any special rules mommy made....

JP: Yes...

(spills entire Pepsi on om's lap as she is transcribing the conversation)

Mom: Oh! JP! Ugh!

JP: (stunned silence)

Mom: What happened!

JP: I spilled my Pepsi.

Mom: Quick let's get a towel to clean it up. It's okay these things happen.

(JP is very anxious and on the edge of freaking out. Mom gets a towel and together we mop it up.)

Mom: Did that make you sad?

JP: But it make me confused.

Mom: What was confusing?

JP: I don't know...but hey I got an idea.

Mom: What's that?

JP: I'm going to give you a think.

Mom: A think? Can I have my think?

JP: Yes.

Mom: Okay, I'm waiting for my think.

JP: Let's see. I'll pick and see. I pick...videos.

Mom: Oh, I see. Well I'd rather keep talking here at the computer.

JP: Well I like to play my Nick Jr.

Mom: What is your favorite game on Nick Jr?

JP: My...I like... the Backyardigans driving their truck.

Mom: Anyone else?

JP: I was trying to play the Backyardigans racing adventure. But it's a puzzle. We got to put it on before it disappears.

Mom: Why would it disappear?

JP: Because I have to turn it back on. I have to click the mouse to turn it back on.

Mom: I see.

JP: Maybe...I know...let's think about...I know I can play my Playhouse Disney.

Mom: Did we have company last week?

JP: Oh, yes, Mommy! But hey! I can play my Playhouse Disney. Spell. playhousedisney.com. First make a www dot and a playhousedisney dot com.

Mom: Yep, you're right. But Mommy asked you a question.

JP: Oh.

Mom: Did we have company last week?

JP: Yes.

Mom: Who?

JP: Me.

Mom: Did anyone else stay the night?

JP: Yes, my friend baby bear and bob the builder CD. Spud the dragon, Bob's boots and Bob's big surprise and Pincher goes fishing. (The 4 stories on his Bob CD storybook)

Mom: JP, did Grandma and Grandpa visit us last week.

JP: Yes, but Mommy. Grandma is going to be here to go to the boy parade.

(huh?)

Mom: Did Grandma come to help mommy with the garage sale?

JP: Yes.

Mom: Did we sell some toys at the garage sale.

JP: Yes. But I got a question for you.

Mom: What is that?

JP: I can make a toy parade. I can move and pick up toys. Be careful to not bump into the furniture or you lose toys. (script from a nickjr game)

Mom: Did you sell any of your Thomas at the garage sale?

JP: Ha! I did one. I had one. I had one BIG Thomas.

Mom: And you sold him!

JP: Yes, I was so happy to be him.

Mom: Did you like that Thomas.?

JP: But that boy likes him. Maybe if the boy doesn't he'll bring him back here.

Mom: I think is great that you are giving him your Thomas.

(This was a motorized BIG Thomas that JP was afraid of for a couple of years. He loved Thomas but NOT that particular one. We used this train to teach him to say "no" and "turn it off please". At first he would break down in hysterics if it got turned on. Finally with a lot of effort he got so he could tell us that he didn't want it on and asked us to turn it off. So needless to say it was a love/hate relationship. Still JP was very intrigued that this other little boy wanted the train and actually did really well with the other little guy walking off and taking it home. JP keeps alluding that the boy might bring it back. I have a feeling JP would prefer he wouldn't!)

JP: But he will bring it back here! Later.

May 8, 2007

JP: Mommy, can we make words on the computer?

Mom: Okay, what should we say?

JP: How about we say the magic words?

Mom: What are the magic words?

JP: But hey! How about ....some ...how about we talk about anything!

Mom: Okay, lets talk about "gym and swim" (class at the YMCA) today.

JP: Close! How about some computer games.

Mom: Okay. What computer game do you want to talk about?

JP: I want to talk about "My friends Tigger and Pooh".

Mom: Oh, that's that cool TV show that is coming to Disney.

JP: It's on Playhouse Disney. It is coming on Saturday 9 central. On Playhouse Disney next month!

Mom: Are you excited to watch it?

JP: Yes! There will be Darby and Tigger and Pooh.

Mom: Will Piglet be there?

JP: Yeah. And Roo!

Mom: Cool! Can I watch it with you?

JP: Well, not really. We can watch it on next month!

Mom: You know what! It isn't next month anymore it is this Saturday!

JP: It is Saturday! Now we get to watch "My friends Tigger and Pooh".

Mom: Hey do you remember what Saturday means?

JP: I don't know....It means pajama day!

(I declared last Saturday as Pajama day and we were "couch potatoes" all day. JP loved this as he was wearing a new pair of Superman pajamas. Unfortunately, he then tried to declare Sunday as pajama day and Monday...)

Mom: That is right. What is pajama day?

JP: Because I can wear superman shirt with a superman cape on it. On my back. And I got to wear my blue superman long shorts. And then there will be a superman!

Mom: Cool. Did you wear them until breakfast.

JP: Ah! Yep!

Mom: Did you change in to clothes after breakfast.

JP: Yes. I wear them at bedtime.

Mom: On pajama day do you wear clothes or pajamas all day?

JP: Pajamas all day! But we can play a game.

Mom: What game do you want to play?

JP: How about...how...we could watch a movie.

Mom: No, no movies.

JP: But I'll find one.

Mom: But we are listening to the Dr. Seuss CD and typing on the computer. Isn't this fun?

JP: Oops. That's close.

Mom: What story is on the CD next?

JP: "The Cat and the Hat" and "The Cat in the Hat Comes Back".

Mom: Which one is your favorite?

JP: My favorite CD Story is ...is.. is ...Horton hear a Who.

(I don't believe him. He never listens to Horton Hears a Who. He always zaps it and goes back to a cat in the hat story. Right now, Horton Hears a Who is playing because he is in my office with me and not readily available to rewind to his favorites.)

Mom: Really that is your favorite or that is what is on right now?

JP: I got an idea.

Mom: What's that?

JP: Maybe to watch Jack Jack attacks.

Mom: Is that the Incredible's short movie?

(Jack Jack attack is a 5 minute clip about what really happens while Jack Jack (the baby in the Incredibles) is home with the babysitter. The rest of the family is off saving civilization. The family doesn't think Jack Jack has any special powers but he has lots and he really messes with the poor babysitter!)

JP: Not quite. That is the dark incredible movie.

Mom: What do you mean dark?

JP: The dark is Jack Jack. Maybe we can watch that one. Hey what are you waiting for. Let's go to the toy room and watch Jack Jack Attacks.

Mom: No. Mommy wants to play a game first.

JP: But Mommy! We got to finish our movie first.

Mom: What game shall we play?

JP: There is no time for play. There is no time for games. But there is movies to be done. But when our dad went out for the day. My dad said...Mommy and me, Dash. Well then who should come up? ...Maybe Daddy is coming tonight? He's coming on Saturday at 9:30 central.

( A bit of Cat in the Hat at play here. Interestingly though he gets side tracked. A bit of explanation: Dad is out of town for 3 days and JP has already asked about him a couple of times today. Unfortunately, no Daddy in the forecast for tonight but JP was very relieved to know that Daddy will be here for the "My friends Tigger and Pooh bonanza he is planning on Saturday at 9:30 central!)

Mom: Oh, good then he'll be here to watch my friends Tigger and Pooh.

JP: Oh of course! Let's watch Playhouse Disney.

Mom: But Playhouse Disney isn't on at 4 in the afternoon.

JP: Maybe we'll try to watch its. It's on 06.

Mom: What is that?

JP: To watch Playhouse Disney.

Mom: Yes but what is 06?

JP: Channel six is Playhouse Disney.

Mom: Actually Playhouse Disney is channel 48.

JP: Well, I can turn it on. Maybe I can do that...I'll be right back!

(He turns on the TV and starts flipping channels. He gets up into the 60s before coming to ask Mom for help. I show him channel 48 which actually has the Disney emblem on the bottom corner. He believes me that it is the right channel but demands that I put Playhouse Disney on.)

May 3, 2007

Mom: JP, how was your day?

JP: Great!

Mom: What all have you done today?

JP: I don't know. But first we have to snap my Superman costume and tie my belt. Can you snap my Superman costume please?

Mom: Nope.

JP: Oh, but of course you can!

Mom: Why should I do that?

JP: Because you can snap and tie my Superman belt. And then I need to put on my cape.

Mom: No, Superman doesn't wear a cape.

JP: But Superman does wear a cape! (he is starting to get a little peeved)

Mom: Are you sure?

JP: Yes! And the snap my superman suit and tie my superman belt and my cape!

Mom: Okay.

(Mom helps him put it on)

JP: Look! I'm superman!

Mom: You look just like Tigger.

JP: Nope, I'm just like Superman! Silly.

Mom: Is Superman a boy or a girl?

JP: He's a boy. And he's a superhero! But I'm Superman.

Mom: Oh, are you a superhero.

JP: Yes, but I'm right here. Shall I watch my movie when I am Superman?

Mom: What movie?

JP: Sing along song movie. I'll go push play.

Mom: No, No, No. Come here. Mommy asked you what have you done today?

JP: I have done Disney Preschool and Camp Munroe speech. And I played at the park with with...T and... and... J.

Mom: Was anyone else there?

JP: I went down the yellow slide and I saw the water. I splashed the water.

Mom: There was water on the slide?

JP: Yes

Mom: How did water get on the slide?

JP: Because the rain fell on it. We used the umbrella to keep us dry.

Mom: That's right it rained on our drive to speech, didn't it?

JP: Yes.

Mom: Who else played on the slides with you?

JP: G!

Mom: Yeah. He was even at our house last night, wasn't he?

JP: Hurray!

Mom: Did you and G have fun last night.

JP: Yes, but Uh oh! I hear T!

Mom: Yep, it sounds like he is waking up from his nap. I hear him in his monitor.

JP: But, I'll go get him. I'll be right back.

Mom: Are you bringing him back with you?

JP: Oh yes. I'll be right back. I'll get T. Well, actually will you get T.

Mom: Oh, do you need my help?

JP: I don't need your help. How about you get T and I watch my movie.

Mom: I'll tell you what. How about if you go tell T that Mommy is coming.

And he is off like the flying superhero he is!

May 2 2007

Mom: What do you want to talk about today, JP?

JP: Movies!

Mom: Movies, which movie?

JP: Sing along songs Lion King Circle of Life.

Mom: That is a good movie. Which is your favorite song?

JP: My favorite song is "I just can' wait...my favorite song is Circle of Life.

Mom: Wow, I like that one. But do you remember what Mommy's favorite song is?

JP: Mommy, what's your favorite song?

Mom: Do you remember me telling you before?

JP: Yes.

Mom: What did I tell you?

JP: I don't know.

Mom: Okay, I'll give you a clue.

JP: Oh, a clue!

Mom: It has to do with bugs.

JP: Bugs Life?

Mom: No, it is a song on the "Sing Along Circle of Life" movie and it is a song about bugs. Do you know what I am talking about?

JP: The Lion King Timon and Pumbaa.

Mom: What song is that?

JP: That was from "Yummy Yummy Yummy! I have bugs in my tummy".

Mom: Yeah, that's it! That is mommy's favorite song.

JP: (fake cough) excuse me.

Mom: Goodness, do you have a tickle in your throat?

JP: I have a tickle in the way home on the van.

(I wouldn't know about this but the van driver relayed this story to me today. The two boys on either side of JP ganged up on him and were tickling him. He was screeching and she didn't know if he liked it or not so she pulled over the van to make them stop. JP protested, "No, don't make them stop!" (big smile)

Mom: Oh, you mean when Drew and Jack tickled you.

JP: Yes. But I got an idea.

Mom: What idea?

JP: To watch a movie.

Mom: No, I think right now we are making words on the computer.

JP: But after we are done we'll watch a movie.

Mom: Actually, I think we will do some writing and scribbling.

JP: Oh, writing and scribbling! Writing and scribbling with two markers.

Mom: Which two do you want?

JP: blue and black.

Mom: Why blue and black?

JP: Because...I'm going to watch a sing along song. But when I am done writing I am going to watch a sing along movie.

Mom: Well, then I thought we would play a game or do a puzzle. Which would you like to do?

JP: Play a game.

Mom: What game do you want to play?

JP: I want to play...I want to play...I like to play...I like to play...let me see...well, I like to play (grabs a soccer ball) soccer.

(We are in my office where I have every single game we own lined up on a shelf. JP looked them all up and down. Apparently he didn't like any of them.)

Mom: Well, soccer would be fun. But I think that might be best outside after T gets up from his nap. Can we do that then?

JP: Maybe. Well. After Kristine gets here.

Mom: Well, Kristine came yesterday so she isn't coming today.

JP: Well, he could come on June.

Mom: Maybe in June.

(Actually yesterday was Kristine's last day. She is a student at a nearby university and is heading home for summer break. She might be back in town to work at a camp over the summer and will pick up a few hours here and there but nothing predictable. I explained to JP that we wouldn't be seeing her until school starts next fall. I don't think he is quite understanding that...)

JP: Good idea!

Mom: When T wakes up do you want to go outside?

JP: Yes, we can go outside but I got to put on my shoes. After we go outside...we got to put on my shoes first and then we'll go outside.

Mom: Yes, you are right. Do you want to wear your new Spiderman shoes or your sandals?

JP: I like to wear Spiderman shoes.

Mom: Do you like sandals?

(the answer would be no to that questions--but as usual avoidance is his method of answering)

JP: Well. I like to go...we can go outside and jump on the trampoline with the net on it. On the trampoline we can go jump jump jump. We can play gatorade gatorade gatorade we all fall down!

Mom: Did Kristine teach you that?

(She and JP spent a lot of time on the trampoline yesterday)

JP: Yes.

Mom: Cool. I like Kristine. She is fun.

JP: Kristine jump on the trampoline with the net with me!

Mom: She sure did. Was it kind of different jumping with someone else on the trampoline with you?

JP: Yes. But Mommy, who's coming today?

(The poor guy has learned that if we aren't leaving the house than someone is coming here. But then busy is good, right?)

Mom: Remember we are just hanging out this afternoon and then G is...

JP: going to be here! Oh!

Mom: Did you remember that the trampoline was G's. It used to be in his backyard.

JP: You and Daddy build that in my garden.

Mom: Yep, but G's mommy gave it to us for your garden. Wasn't that nice of her?

JP: Yes.

Mom: You should make sure you tell her thanks! And tonight you need to make sure that you let G jump on it.

JP: Can G and I jump on it?

Mom: Yes, but sometimes G might want to jump alone atleast until he gets comfortable on the trampoline. So can you give a little time to get comfortable.

JP: Oh, yes. But the trampoline will make me bounce.

Mom: Oh, bounce. Like Tigger!

JP: Did Kristine make me bounce.

(Once again, leading a conversation with a question. He always phrases it with a question. We can't seem to break that habit.)

Mom: I don't know, did she.

JP: Yes. But, hey!

Mom: Yes.

JP: Maybe the trampoline will spin and high my jump.

Mom: Huh? Maybe the trampoline will what.

JP: ...???? Once I jump high I'll spin and high my jump.

(I'm confused)

Mom: Do jump high on the trampoline?

JP: Yes.

Mom: Okay, are you reading to write and scribble?

JP: Yes. Here it goes.
